Dr. Julie Nemecek Forms Consulting Company

spring Arbor. Michigan – Dr. Julie Nemecek announced today the formation of Julie Nemecek Consulting, LLC. The company is a full-service consulting firm specializing in consulting, training, and advocacy which honor diversity in the workplace and the world.

Dr. Nemecek’s life history, teaching experience, and commitment to honoring diversity bring a unique depth to her consulting work. The Rev. Dr. Thomas Ball, a former colleague of Ms. Nemecek. said, “Julie Nemecek’s work ethic is of the highest caliber. Her personal and professional integrity are beyond reproach . . . . She will add breadth, depth, and value to you or your organization and I can promise you will be pleased with her performance."

The company is based in Spring Arbor, Michigan where Dr. Nemecek was formerly employed by Spring Arbor University. She was dismissed after filing a much-publicized discrimination complaint with the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The story was covered nationally by the New York Times, U.S. News and World Report, Fox News, Associated Press, and a major story in the Wall Street Journal. The story was also featured in newspapers and blogs around the United States as well as in media in at least six foreign countries.

Recently Dr. Nemecek has been speaking around Michigan to high school, college and university students about diversity and her own transgender experience. She always enjoys the freshness of the questions from these students and the strong commitments to honoring diversity that seem to typify this generation. The students have generally agreed with the perspective of a recent, Jackson Citizen Patriot editorial: “The truth is that Julie Nemecek is an articulate spokesperson for the transgender cause. . . . She is highly educated and thoughtful, not flamboyant.”

In a March presentation at Eastern Michigan University, Julie was joined by her wife of 35 years. Near the end of their two-hour presentation one student rose and said to them, “The two of you have changed my life forever. You have given me a new definition of love.” Dr. Sylvia Weinberg, the professor who invited the Nemeceks, commented, ““Dr. Nemecek’s presentation was riveting which is explained both by the drama and strength of her story as well as her compelling style of presentation. . . . Dr. Nemecek, through a relaxed, professional and conversational tone and a generous sprinkling of humor was able to put the audience at ease and open to new learning.”

In the business world – both for profit and non-profit – , Ms. Nemecek has found that more and more corporations are developing very strong non-discrimination statements as a way of honoring diversity in the workplace and attracting the growing number of job applicants who expect this from their employer. This affirmation also recognizes the $641 billion consumer market that makes up the GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, and Transgender) community. In the company’s Spring newsletter, Dr. Nemecek stressed that honoring workplace diversity is simply “the right thing to do legally, morally, socially, and fiscally.”
